SE Corp. is a manufacturer of spacer spray machines and ultrasonic cleaning equipment. This equipment is used in manufacturing of flat panel displays like liquid crystal displays (TFT, STDN). Special spacers made from glass or from polymer material are sprayed onto the lower glass plate in order to keep the distance between the two glass plates of the flat panel equal over the whole area.

SE Corp. has been founded by Takeji Shibuya San in 1954. Today Mitsuhiro Shibuya San is the president of the company. SE Corp. has 80 employees and a yearly turnover of around one billion JPY. The market share for spacer spray machines is around 50%. The Company is located in the Tokyo area in Sayama-City.

The equipment sales is organized worldwide by SE's trading partner Iwatani International. Iwatani is a big sales organization with offices all over the world and a headquarter in Tokyo. Main activities are in the business fields of gas, energy and communication. This includes not only the material, but also related equipment. Special equipment for the semiconductor industry and for flat panel industry are supported in cooperation with companies that are specialized on these markets. In Europe the customer interface for these products is Crystec Technology Trading GmbH. We work close with SE Corp. and Iwatani International Corporation (Europe) GmbH in Düsseldorf as you can see on the following graph:

There are three different spray methods available for bringing the spacer onto the glass plate: It is possible to use solvent in order to spray the spacers and it is possible to spray them dry. Then there is also a semi-dry method available. All three methods have certain advantages and disadvantages. SE is offering all three methods and can recommend the best method for your application.

The heart of the machines are the spray chambers with their spray head. On the following picture you see one of those spray heads from the top view.

The most simple set-up for a spacer spray machine is a manual machine. It consists only of a spray chamber and loading and unloading are done manually.

SE can supply also automatic machines. The spacer spray chamber can be combined for example with a loader unit and an unloader unit. The glass plates are transferred from a cassette to the spray chamber by a special robot. Unloading is done in a similar way.

It is also possible to include cleaning steps and quality control steps in such an automatic machine. SE can delivery a complete production line.

In the following example, you see equipment that cleans the glass plates dry and ultrasonic before the spacers are sprayed on it. As an option the result of the ultrasonic cleaning can be checked by an inspection module.

Measurement of Spray Density

Beside this also a quality check for the spacer spray process can be included in an automatic machine. In this case a spacer counter is implemented. On the following picture you can see this type of wafer counter, that is available as a stand-alone tool and as an in-line tool.

The distribution of the spacers on the glass plate needs to be very homogeneous  in order to get high quality displays. SE spacer spray machines can guarantee very good results.

For the use in fully automatic production lines a buffer module is available that can stock due to customer specification the content of one or several cassettes.

For the production of high resolution flat panels, spacer spray lines with clean air flow boxes ara available. The following picture shows a version that has installed ultrasonic cleaning as well as clean air environment chambers.
